Shopping malls, movie theaters, hospitals, banks, schools, parks, nightclubs, universities, grocery stores, churches, subways, office buildings, bowling alleys—what do these spaces all have in common? These are just a few examples of the types of public locations where some of the latest active shootings have occurred in the past few years.
As of today (Monday, June 12th) there have already been 290 mass shootings since January 1st, which averages over 1.75 mass shootings per day. This puts 2023 on pace to become the third consecutive 600+ mass shooting year. These trends continue to rise year after year and mass shootings have become the unfortunate new norm in America. It is time to take proactive measures to ensure people’s safety in public spaces.
Nobody wants to leave the house or send their children off to school and worry whether they will make it home safely at the end of the day. Active shooter drills are now commonplace in schools. Does your office space have a protocol in the event of an active shooter? Do you know what to do if the situation arises? Do you have a safe place to shelter in place?
