What You Believe May Not Save You

Belief through Magnified Glass

Active shooter events are changing our lives and relationship to what it means to be safe. What we do, where we go, and how we prepare for such an event is becoming an integral part of our daily lives.

Accommodations we make for this new threat are largely based upon our beliefs. And these beliefs could make us less safe.

We convince ourselves that bad things happen to other people (mostly). We believe Law Enforcement will respond quickly, bravely, and without cowardness. We believe we already know what to do during an active shooter event.

Is this enough?

What if an active shooter event involves us this time? What if law enforcement is slow to respond? What if law enforcement’s response is timely but disorganized and lacking command structure (Uvalde school shooting)? What if officers are not as brave as we hoped they would be (Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting in Parkland)?

When our beliefs fail, we are not safe. In such an event, we would be forced to take decisive action. Can you run? Good. What if you can’t run, where will you hide? Under a desk? Behind a door? In a broom closet? These are not safe places.

The solution may be a safe room nearby. A safe room you can barricade from the inside. A safe room reinforced with two UL certified ballistic shield panels. A safe room with an Emergency 911 call button and a live camera feed with monitor showing occupants what’s going on the other side of the door. A safe room where you can stay until the threat has been removed.

Please be safe. Ask your Building Manager about a safe room.
